Congratulations to Dr. Heng Cai on Securing NASA Funding as PI for the HeatSMART Project

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Heng Cai has been awarded a $660,000 NASA grant for a three-year project titled "HeatSMART: Co-Developing Solutions for Monitoring and Augmenting Resilience to Extreme Heat in Traditionally Industrial Communities."

This project was among the 8 projects selected through a very competitive funding opportunity (93 proposals received)!

Dr. Heng Cai will serve as the Principal Investigator (PI) for this project. The Co-Principal Investigators (Co-PIs) are Dr. Leiqiu Hu from the University of Alabama-Huntsville and Mrs. Xue Wood, Director of Community Development for North Kansas City.

The HeatSMART project is a university-government partnership aimed at developing risk-informed, community-driven heat resilience solutions for industrial communities. We will integrate multi-source NASA Earth observations, human mobility data, the built environment, and community engagement to empower heat resilience.
